Meet Our Summer Interns
One of the best things about summer is welcoming a new class of interns to KMDG. Our internship program allows students to expand their horizons, learning valuable skills in a hands-on environment that they can cultivate for years to come.
We’d like to introduce you to this summer’s cohort of interns: Sean Alberts and Nita Wareechatchai.
Sean joins us from the University of Virginia, where he is about to start the third and final year of his Master’s in Landscape Architecture program. He is a lifelong learner and seeks inspiration in his work by traveling and observing the world around him, both culturally and ecologically. His main design interests include sponge cities, cities of play, and urban agriculture. This summer, Sean is interested in growing his knowledge of plants by doing a deep dive into horticulture and planting design. He’s also excited to learn more about the ins and outs of working at a landscape architecture firm and to grow his software skillset and design sensibilities. In his free time, he loves to cook, learn languages, read, sketch, work out, and explore the city of Boston. He’s studying Spanish and Catalan for his upcoming fall semester in Barcelona.
Nita is an alumnus of the University of Virginia as part of the classes of 2020 and 2023, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Architecture, a Master’s in Landscape Architecture, and a Master’s in Architecture. She enjoys design and philosophy and is interested in process, temporality, and play. This summer, she’s looking forward to making her friend’s wedding dress, going skydiving for the first time, and seeing some of Boston’s famed fireworks celebrations. Nita has a wide array of hobbies, sharing, “When I’m not doing architecture, I’m crafting (bookbinding, sewing, crocheting, embroidering, painting, making tiny models, drawing, animating), listening to music (all genres/decades), reading, and eating.”
During their time with us, Sean and Nita will work on post-occupancy research for our newly completed and legacy projects. They will participate in the BSLA Summer Intern Meet Up Series, a popular program that multiple Boston area firms participate in. Interns meet each other and develop a cohort across firms. They spend an afternoon each week touring the host firm’s work and learning about each office. Last year, when KMDG hosted, we toured Fisher Hill Reservoir Park, and this year, we will be highlighting newly (almost!) complete Inman Square. It’s an exciting opportunity for interns to develop connections and gain a broader understanding of landscape architecture in Boston.
Sean and Nita joined us at the end of May and will be staying through the summer. Even after a short time with us, they have added so much energy and enthusiasm to our culture, and we’re excited to continue to work alongside them.
