Larz Anderson Historic Structures Restoration Progress

Our work to restore the Lagoon and historic “follies” at Larz Anderson Park continues! The focal point is an historic, cast stone tempietto designed by the architectural firm Little & Browne and built in 1910, which is being completely reconstructed using contemporary precast concrete details and construction techniques. A central feature of the Tempietto is the Font, a fountain that draws water from the Lagoon, and showcases an incredible cast stone Satyr’s mask, which conveys water from the Font down a stepped water rill back to the Lagoon. The Satyr’s mask has been meticulously recreated by our friends at Northern Design Precast, Inc. and will be installed next year. The progression images below show the steps in the process of recreating this signature element, from its existing condition at left to the finished product at right.
