Formerly housed in two concrete cylinders with tiny porthole windows, Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s primary cafeteria was a dim, depressing space with a matching menu of unhealthy choices. KMDG was part of the project team that completely re-envisioned the hospital’s primary dining experience through three strategies:

  1. Architectural:
The precast concrete enclosing wall was replaced with two full-height glass curtain walls bringing in daylight and garden views.

  2. Landscape:
Linear garden spaces were introduced to focus views in foreground and desirable street views through shrubs and trees that act as visual filters.

  3. Interiors & Food Choices:
Spatial improvements are augments with fresh and healthier food choices, display of fresh foods and increased light levels.
